This comprehensive 4-day course is for qualified/trainee Therapists, who wish to learn all aspects of this very versatile and pleasant therapy.  The treatment can be performed virtually anywhere, without any equipment or oils, and the client does not have to undress.  All you need is an ordinary chair.

Indian Head Massage is safe and effective, and helps to relieve stress.  It is also beneficial for headaches, shoulder and neck stiffness, tension, aches and pains, insomnia etc.  The treatment can also be used in the workplace, and is ideal for exhibitions, demonstrations etc.  It is an extremely beneficial additional therapy to Massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Beauty Therapy etc.

The course includes:

  • Techniques and strokes for the upper back, neck, head, face, upper and lower arms, and hands
  • Plus stretches, additional movements, and acupressure points
  • The history and background to Indian Head Massage
  • Benefits and contra-indications
  • Conditions affecting the skin, head, neck, etc.
  • Chakra balancing
  • Relevant anatomy and physiology
  • Marketing the treatment

The course is for qualified Massage Therapists, Aromatherapists, Reflexologists and other qualified body workers.  If you have completed a course in Anatomy and Physiology, but are still training in a practical subject, you can also carry out the course (please ring to discuss), but can only take the exam when qualified.

You will learn original techniques, based on the teachings of Nerendra Mehta, who devised the original routine and brought the techniques to Britain, plus adaptations and additional movements.

Please note - all four course dates must be attended to satisfactorily complete the course.

Case studies form an important part of the course, and there are written assignments to be completed during the course.  Case studies comprise of treating 3 people 3 times each, starting with a consultation and recording the treatment, clients’ evaluation etc.  These will be explained on the course.

The course is accredited with Embody for 15 CPD points, but this can only be achieved when the ITEC exam is successfully taken.  This exam consists of a practical, a written paper (multi-choice) and the case studies.  Depending on the qualification you already have, you may be exempt from taking the other elements of the exam.  (If, for example, you already hold ITEC qualifications, you are exempt from Anatomy and Physiology and Professional Conduct and Business Awareness.  Please ring to discuss this, if you hold other qualifications.)

Tutor: Liz Manison, Justine Thornton or other members of the Athena In House teaching team.

Cost: £300.00 (£255.32 +VAT), which includes the 4 training days, a comprehensive manual, and refreshments during the course.  The ITEC exam fee costs £96.80 and is payable separately when the exam is booked.
