
 During the full 8 day Level 3 ITEC Sports Massage Diploma course we will complete the study of the fundamental principles of sports massage therapy including anatomy, physiology, contraindications, health and safety, professionalism and ethics, exercise training, injury prevention and management, diseases and disorders, thermal therapy and cryotherapy and practice the most commonly used sports massage techniques. We will look at strategies for treating soft tissue injuries and postural conditions.
We aim to develop awareness of body tissues, anatomical structures, soft tissue healing mechanisms and aftercare advice.
Course content:
- Days 1 & 2: Introduction to Sports Massage
Including its relationship with other professionals and practices
- Day 3: Ankle & Knee Joint Examination & Assessment
Clinical examination of the ankle and knee joints are covered in this hands on workshop. Learn how to identify joint, muscle or ligament injuries.
- Day 4: Advanced Soft Tissue Techniques 1
This workshop will look at Neuromuscular Techiniques including Trigger Points, how to locate and treat them.
- Day 5: Advanced Soft Tissue Techniques 2
This workshop gives hands on practical training in Soft Tissue Mobilisation and Soft Tissue Release techniques.
- Day 6: Muscle Energy Techniques & PNF
Learn how to use Muscle Energy Techniques such as Reciprocal Inhibition and Post Isometric Relaxation and also Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Fascilitation, which are ideal techniques to aid massage/sports therapists in the rehabilitation of their clients.
- Days 7 & 8: Diploma completion
Days 1 & 2 are available as our 2 Day Introduction to Sports Massage Course. Students can choose to progress and complete the full Diploma by attending a further 6 days. Days 3-6 are available as standalone workshops in their own right.
The ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage has a pre-requisite of the ITEC Level 3 Holistic Massage Diploma. It is then comprised of ITEC Unit 27 Sports Massage. There are 3 elements - theory, practical and case studies. The main aim of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage is to enable candidates to provide treatments for sports injuries and help improve athlete’s performance through pre and post event massage.
Case studies will be completed and students will undertake externally assessed theory and practical exams.
Opportunities for progression
Once candidates have achieved the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage they may progress on to other ITEC or equivalent awards at level 3, for example:

This award qualifies graduates to operate their own clinic or home visiting practice. Graduates can also gain employment in Health Clubs, Health Farms, Spas and Liners.
 Tutor: Marvin Dukes. Marvin spent two years in Fitness Management before setting up his Personal Training Company, M.D. Training in 2002. In 2004 Marvin moved into the Sports Massage Therapy field and began to specialise more in Sports Injuries & Rehabilitation.
Marvin has worked as Head Therapist to Birmingham City FC youth development programme as well as teaching Sports Injuries at Birmingham College. Marvin has worked as Head Therapist in Semi-pro football since 2006 and currently works with AFC Wombourne Utd. He teaches Sports Massage for Active Health Group who are based in Manchester and is a Fitness Consultant for PTH, Performance Through Health, an Occupational Health Company in Bromsgrove. Marvin re-launched his business as Walsall Injury Clinic in 2008 and now purely focusing on Injury Treatment, Management & Rehabilitation.
ITEC require 100% attendance in order to obtain the Level 3 Diploma.
Students who do not attend all modules will need to organise tutorials with their tutor to enable them to access missed information. A fee is payable for this service.
Cost:
Days 1 & 2 are available as the 2 Day Introduction to Sports Massage Course priced at £200.00. Students can choose to progress and complete the full Diploma by attending a further 6 days.
Days 3-6 are available as standalone workshops in their own right priced at £100.00 each.
The full ITEC Level 3 Sports Massage Therapy Diploma Course is £800.00 (£600.00 if you are progressing from the 2 Day Introductory course).
 To secure your place: A deposit of £100.00 secures a place. The balance is then due no later than 30 days prior to commencement of the course. Those students who choose to take the final ITEC course assessments and examinations will also be required to pay the associated registration and assessment fees. These are currently set at 103.15 pounds per examination. These fees are payable in full on or before day one of the course and, once paid, are strictly non refundable.
